At the 36th International Vienna Motor Symposium Volkswagen has revealed the all-new 3-cylinder 1.0 TSI engine. The new motor is based on the current unit that is mounted on the Volkswagen Polo and can deliver a total of 272 horsepower and 270 Nm peak of torque.
According to the German group, the engine comes with a monoscroll turbocharger and with an e-boost system that is able to improve the power. For now we don’t know if Volkswagen has plans for using this engine, but this is a big step forward for the industry.
Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neußer, member of the board of management for the Volkswagen brand with responsibility for development and Volkswagen Group head of powertrain development said that the new 1.0 TSI is a great example of just how much potential combustion engines still have in them. As a result, the German boss says that the electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles can wait.
