Around two weeks ago, Subaru was revealing the BRZ Concept STI at the LA Auto Show, and now, with only a few days left before the Tokyo Motor Show will open its doors, the Japanese company has released new photos and details with the production version BRZ.
The Subaru BRZ, just like Toyota GT 86 is the result of a collaboration between Subaru and Toyota Motor Corporation, with this joint project aiming at bringing a sports car with superior steering response and driving pleasure to the world.
Just like in the GT 86’s case, some of the more aggressive looking elements have been lost during the BRZ’s transition from a concept to production ready, so as you can see, the massive rear wing and the carbon fiber trim have been removed.
The Subaru BRZ is basically a re-badged Toyota GT 86 now, with only a few differences which include slightly different headlights and taillights, re-sculpted bumpers, new alloys, and various other minor tweaks.
In terms of power, the Subaru BRZ uses the same 2.0-liter flat-four engine with
Toyota’s direct injection and port injection technology (D-4S) as the GT 86, so it means the output levels are going to reach 200 horses and 205Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque.

All the juice is directed to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission featuring a short stroke shift lever, but a 6-speed automatic with S and M shifting modes is also going to be offered as an option. In the S mode we’re talking about better shifting response while the M stands for optional shifting.
The BRZ rides on 17 inch aluminium wheels wrapped in tires size 215/45R17, and according to Subaru, all models will be equipped with electronic stability control.
