The 2012 North American International Auto Show is opening its doors to the press today, so Smart decided to release a few extra photos and details with their Detroit bound concept, the ‘for-us’.
smart CEO Dr. Annette Winkler says "We at smart love pick-ups – if they are small on the outside, large on
the inside, very safe and extremely comfortable. With the smart for-us a
petrol station is no longer required!"
The Smart for-us is an urban pickup measuring 3,547 mm in length, 1,506 mm in width and 1,701 mm in height, powered by a state-of-the-art magneto-electric motor developing 75 HP (55 kW) and 130 Nm of torque. The motor is baked by a 17.6 kWh lithium-ion battery and it enables speeds of up to 120 Km/h.
Inside the cabin there is plenty of room for two people and space for two ebikes behind them. The for-us also features an electrically driven tailboard which along with the cargo floor it retracts by 280 mm when it is open.
In terms of appearance the Smart for-us Concept is stylish, yet uncomplicated, with two-seat shells covered with a soft yellow fabric and a smartphone in place of a conventional rear-view mirror.
