On September 3rd in 1996 Skoda began the production of the first generation Octavia. The production was located at Mlada Boleslav in a newly opened part of the Czech plant. As you already know, the development of the model began in 1992, one year after Volkswagen Group took over the Czech car manufacturer.

The first generation Skoda Octavia was based on the new Golf Mk4 platform. In 1996 Skoda also delivered the first Octavias to their customers. At that time, Octavia had only three engine: two four-cylinder petrol units and a turbodiesel.

In 1998 Skoda launched the Octavia Combi and in 1999 the Czech car manufacturer launched the all-wheel drive version of the model. The last unit of the first generation was produced in November 2010. At that time, Skoda delivered 970.000 sedans and 470.000 Combi.
