Autocar has published a 90 second review video with the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a car which comes with major improvements in all areas when compared to the generation it replaces and which sits on the same platform used by Mercedes on the latest M Class.
The model approached by Autocar is the 3.0 CRD V6 Limited version which means the 2,987 cc turbodiesel from under the bonnet provides 237 bhp at 3,600 rpm and 405 lb-ft of torque at 1,800 rpm. The engine is mated with a five-speed automatic transmission which helps the 2,272 Kg SUV get from nought to 62 mph in 8.5 seconds and also reach a top speed of 126 mph.
In terms of fuel efficiency the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee returns 35 mpg (combined cycle / UK rating) while its CO2 emissions are 218 grams per Km.
With a price tag of 36,795 GBP the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee represents a cheaper alternative to models like the Mercedes M Class and the Range Rover Discover, and even though Autocar thinks it won’t be as good off-road as some of its rivals, this new generation is still a very recommendable SUV.
