AutoExpress has tested the 2013 Mercedes SL63 AMG, a vehicle which they call a more cheaper version of the SLS AMG flagship.
Their main curiosity was to see if Mercedes has finally build and AMG version SL that could handle, and lets just say that AutoExpress thinks an Audi R8 Spyder or a Porsche 911 would behave better than this. We don’t know if you can really compare the new SL with those models but anyway follow the jump and see why the Brits have come up with this conclusion.
The new SL63 AMG uses an all aluminium structure that makes it 275 lbs (125 Kg) lighter than its predecessor, while under its bonnet there is a twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 that produces 529 bhp and 590 lb-ft of torque or 550 bhp and 664 lb-ft with the additional Performance Package.
The shifting is handled by a seven-speed AMG Speedshift automatic gearbox, and when talking about performance, Mercedes claims that new new SL63 will go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds (4.1 seconds with the Performance Pack) and can also reach a top speed of 155 mph (186 mph).
Consumption figures have been also improved to 28.5 mpg combined while CO2 emissions have been lowered to 231 g/Km.
