We know many car manufacturers that have decided to drop the sedans. There is Ford with the Mondeo or Volkswagen with the Passat.
Now, Opel joins this club. According to AutomobilWoche, Opel will drop the Insignia by the end of the year. The news is not as new, because a few months ago, Opel officials have announced that the Insignia will transform into – probably – an SUV.
The answer to this sedan drop off is easy: the slow sales. Also, the Insignia uses an old GM platform which is not suitable for electrification.
“The discontinuation of the Insignia with its non-electrifiable platform favors the faster ramp-up of the Astra production”, said a company official.
