Mercedes-Benz has officially published today the full details about the engine which will be fitted under the bonnet of the upcoming AMG GT supercar.
According to the German car manufacturer, the 2015 Mercedes AMG GT will come with the M178 engine. We are talking about a twin-turbo 4.0 liter V8 engine which can deliver 510 horsepower at 6,250 rpm and 650 Nm peak of torque between 1,750 and 4,750 rpm. The new engine is Euro 6 compliant and has a dry weight of 209 kilograms.
The M178 engine has lightweight pistons, twin overhead camshafts and flow-optimized cylinder heads made from zirconium alloy for optimal temperature and thermal conductivity.
In addition, the cylinder walls have been lined with nano-slide coating in order to minimize friction losses.
Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz has announced that the new M178 engine will be fitted under the bonnet of the upcoming C63 AMG model.
