Chevrolet has come at Geneva with the new Corvette Stingray Convertible. According to the American officials, the new Corvette Stingray was designed from the get-go to be offered as a convertible model, so there were no structural changes. Thanks to this trick, the new Stingray Convertible is sharing almost the same power-to-weight ratio.
"With the all-new Corvette Stingray, we designed and developed the coupe and convertible simultaneously. As a result, the Corvette Stingray offers an open-top driving experience with no compromise in performance, technology or design" said Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design.
The new Corvette Stingray Convertible has a fully automatic soft top that can be opened at speeds of up to 50 km/h. Under the hood is the same 6.2 liter V8 engine that delivers 450 hp and 610 Nm. The engine resources are sent to the ground via a seven speed manual or automatic transmission.
"We wanted the driving experience of the Corvette to live up to the performance expectations that come with the ‘Stingray’ name. Because it was designed from the beginning as an open top car, the Corvette Stingray delivers an exhilarating, connected driving experience – no matter what configuration you choose” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer.
Both, the coupe and convertible Stingray’s will arrive in global markets in late 2013.
