Mitsubishi Motors has announced that they have manipulated "some” fuel economy test data. According to the Japanese car manufacturer, 625,000 vehicles are affected by this news.
We are talking about 57,000 eK Wagon and eK Space mini-cars and 468,000 Dayz and Dayz Roox vehicles which were produced for Nissan. According to Mitsubishi, all of the cars were made between July 2013 and March 2016.
The problem was discovered by Nissan when they have reported inconsistencies in emissions data. As a result, Mitsubishi conducted an internal investigation and found out that the figures have been falsified.
During our internal investigation, we have found that the testing method which was different from the one required by Japanese law has been applied to other models manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors for the Japanese domestic market.
Yesterday, shares of Mitsubishi in Japan dropped 15 percent at 733 yen ($6.75), the stock’s biggest one-day drop in almost 12 years.
