In a new PR stunt, Jim MCDowell, President of MINI USA is challenging the Porsche 911 Carrera S to a duel after releasing an online video and a new Facebook campaign that says their MINI Cooper S is strong enough to take on the mighty German sports car.
The MINI Cooper S vs Porsche 911 Carrera S challenge is supposed to take place at Road Atlanta in two weeks, and depending one the winner Jim McDowell will wear a t-shirt that says ‘We Beat Porsche’ or one that reads ‘We Did
Not Beat Porsche’ at his next public appearance.
For some quick performance figures the MINI Cooper S weights 2678 pounds and packs 184 HP that get sent to the front wheels while the Porsche 911 Carrera S delivers 385 HP to the rear wheels and weights 240 pounds more than the MINI. Accelerating from 0 to 60 mph takes 7.0 seconds in the MINI Cooper S while the Porsche 911 Carrera S takes 3.5 seconds.

MINI vs Porsche challenge video:
As a former racer, going way….way…. back …. IMSA Camel GT / SCCA TRANS AM SERIES / I have never been fond of Porche(s). I am a true American iron series type of guy….(corvette) Greenwoood, etc……. However, it is my true hope that the MINI beats the pants off the peckerwood Porsche….oops did I just say PECKERWOOD…..?
this excerpt from the article gives a strong clue as to who should win;
“the MINI. Accelerating from 0 to 60 mph takes 7.0 seconds in the MINI Cooper S while the Porsche 911 Carrera S takes 3.5 seconds.”
that’s right, the Porsche can hit 60 in 1/2 the time it takes a mini too.
