An interesting set of videos on the official Mercedes-Benz YouTube channel give details on how car acoustics contribute to the overall experience when behind the wheel. The German manufacturer has a whole department dealing with sound design, giving each model an unique tone that will perfectly match the vehicle’s caracteristics.
For example the Mercedes car acoustics for the E 500 Sedan are different than ones experienced in the Coupe version even though the engine offers the same performance. The different sound tones are obtained mainly through the exhaust silencer while in the future, hybrid cars will generate their acoustics tthrough speakers.
