A couple of months ago Mercedes-AMG announced two powertrains that will use plug-in hybrid technology. The first one will be based on the 2.0 liter petrol unit, while the second one will have the V8 4.0 liter at tha base.

The first car to use a plug-in hybrid powertrain signed by Mercedes-AMG will be the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. We don’t have its name for now, but we do know it will be sold under the E-performance moniker. According to our sources it will be the top of the range and will use the GT63 name (not officially confirmed).

As you may recall, the V8 4.0 liter engine equipped with another electric motor will be good for over 800 horsepower and 1,000 Nm peak of torque. And as a result, the future AMG GT will be the most powerfull production model made by Mercedes-AMG. Yes, there is the AMG One, but it hasn’t been unveiled and also it will be a limited edition model.
