Mazda announced that its SKYACTIV G 1.3 Direct Injection Gasoline Engine will soon enter the market (on the facelift Demio known as the Mazda2), with the official unveiling of this new powerplant expected to take place today at the Pacifico Yokohama convention center near Tokyo, Japan.
Combined with the automaker’s i-stop idling stop system, the SKYACTIV G 1.3 features a record high compression ratio of 14.0:1 together with knocking avoiding technologies like piston cavities designed to support ideal combustion and multi hole injectors for precise fuel injection.
The automaker has applied for more than 130 patents in relation to the SKYACTIV G 1.3 engine, which develops 82 PS at 5,400 rpm (62 kW) and 112 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, and which in terms of efficiency is capable of returning 30 Km on 1 litre of fuel.
Other main features regarding the SKYACTIV G 1.3 is that mechanical friction has been reduced by 30 percent due to a narrower crankshaft, new roller followers and low tension piston rings while the compact combustion chambers have a longer stroke now.
