Even though Mazda has launched countless special edition models based on their popular MX5, it seems that there is always room for one more limited edition version.
Badged as Mazda MX5 Sport Black, the car is only available in the UK and production is limited to just 500 exemplars. According to the company, the MX5 Sport Black is inspired by the 275bhp Mazda MX-5 GT racer competing in the 2011 Britcar Production GTN Championship, with some of its special features including a black vinyl roof, tinted windows, 17 inch ‘gun metal’ alloys and a black leather interior with contrasting stitching.
The MX5 Sport Black has also been equipped with a Piano Black steering wheel, a numbered plaque and special floor mats, plus the exterior is available in three bodywork colours, which are Spirited Green metallic, Crystal White Pearlescent and Velocity Red.
Pricing for the Mazda MX5 Sport Black starts at 22,995 GBP, which means just 360 GBP more than the the Sport Tech model (160 PS 2.0-litre engine with a 6-speed gearbox) upon which it is based.
Apart from the MX5 Sport Black, the Japanese automaker is also launching the Mazda2 Black in the UK, which follows the same theme by featuring a black roof, 16 inch matt black alloys, privacy glass and rear bumper sports trim.
The Mazda2 Black Edition is based on the 84PS 1.3-litre Tamura model and its price starts at 12,395 GBP. Production for this model is limited to 618 units.
