Today is a very sad day for us. The mighty and iconic Land Rover Defender is being discontinued. The car was continuously built for 68 years but today all is gone.
In almost seven decades, the car was produced in 2 million units. All of them were assembled at the Solihull plant in UK. Land Rover organized today a celebratory event at the factory where 700 current and former employees gathered around the final vehicle.
More than that, they had the chance to drive the most important models made, including the first pre-production “Huey” Series I and the last Defender 90 Heritage Soft Top. As you can imagine, the very last unit of the Defender won’t go to a customer. It will stay in the Jaguar Land Rover Collection.
The replacement of the Defender will come in 2018 and will have a five member’s lineup: two two-door versions, a four-door long wheelbase, and a pickup set to be offered with two- and four-door body styles.
