Electricity is the future and it looks like John Deere knows this. Why are we saying that? Because the tractor manufacturer has announced an EV tractor concept. Named Sesam (Sustainable Energy Supply for Agricultural Machinery) the tractor is purely electric.
The company is one of the most venerable names in farm equipment and this concept is a big step forward. The John Deere Sesam is based on the traditional 6R tractor has 174 horsepower and two electric motors. Depending on power needs, they can dedicate drive to the vehicle, to the power take off shaft, or split the output with each one taking on a separate duty. The traditional diesel engine was replaced with a battery pack.
According to John Deere officials, the Sesam comes with all the capabilities of a traditional tractor but with no local emissions. Another important fact is that the torque is huge and it is delivered immediately. Unfortunately, the Sesam concept isn’t ready to tackle a full day of hard work on the farm According to John Deere, the batteries’ charge only lasts around four hours under normal use and they need three hours to charge
