Back in January, Jeep unveiled a prototype of the plug-in hybrid version of the current Wrangler. At that moment, the US-based car manufacturer said that we would soon get a production variant of the car.

And now, the unveiling is near. According to the recent teaser video of the company, the new Jeep Wrangler 4xe (this is the commercial name of the plug-in hybrid variant) will be showcased during this December.

For now, we don’t know what powertrain Jeep will use on the Wrangler 4xe. In Europe, Jeep sells the Renegade and Compass 4xe. Both SUVs are equipped with a new 1.3 liter four cylinder engine matted to an electric motor.

The PHEV system is available in two power versions: 190 horsepower and 240 horsepower. For the Jeep Wrangler, the US car manufacturer might use the V6 Pentastar engine, a unit that currently is not sold in Europe.
