Jeep will update again the 9-speed ZF gearbox found in its current range. This announcement comes after it delayed the current Cherokee launch by two months in November last year, because of the same transmission.
Now the US manufacturer will recalibrate the gearbox once again. The 9-speed transmission will feature a software change that will affect more than 100.000 units produced before May 5th. According to a press release, the software calibration process will take only five minutes, but there will be an adaptation learn procedure that might take up to 100 minutes for final tests that can confirm the gearbox works properly.
Jeep will not order a recall, but the clients that arent satisfied with their gearbox can go in every Jeep showroom and ask for a recalibration. It will be done free of charge as it is covered by the guarantee.
The software upgrade comes after 30 clients already sent some complaints about the transmission not working properly. The coplaints were assessed by NHTSA who also noticed Jeep to order a recall.
