For the first time ever, Ford Performance developed a one-off Mustang Cobra Jet factory drag racer with all-electric propulsion.

Its name is Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 and on this very moment, the car is just a project. The car comes with one electric motor mounted on the front that can deliver 1.400 horsepower and about 1.500 Nm peak of torque.

The car was created to honor the 1960s Cobra Jet and it was developed with drag races in mind. As a result, it has a parachute braking system and also a wheelie bar. More than that, according to Ford officials, the final version of the prototye will be able to run the quarter mile in just 8 seconds.

“Ford has always used motorsport to demonstrate innovation. Electric powertrains give us a completely new kind of performance and the all-electric Cobra Jet 1400 is one example of pushing new technology to the absolute limit. We’re excited to showcase what’s possible in an exciting year when we also have the all-electric Mustang Mach-E joining the Mustang family”, said Dave Pericak, Global Director, Ford Icons.
