This year’s Frankfurt Motor Show is not only about four wheeled concepts, production models and supercars, as the Blue Oval is among the company’s who also presented something on two wheels.
It is a bike called the E Concept which uses an unique powering system composed from a motor in the front wheel hub and a 340 Wh lithium-ion battery mounted into the frame and magneotostrictive materials inspired from th world of Formula 1 which convert magnetic energy into kinetic energy and vice versa.
The maximum nominal power on the Ford E Bike Concept is 350 W, enough to support speeds of up to 25 Km/h and a driving range of 85 Km. The battery features the BMS (Battery Management System) which protects against deep discharge and
self-discharge and takes up to 2 hours to regain 80 percent of its capacity or 3 to 4 hours to fully recharge.
The Ford E Bike Concept also features intelligent electronics that prevent the battery from overcharging, undervolting,
overheating and shortcircuit, while some of ts components include Ford design aluminium wheels with Continental Ultra Sport black tires, custom made aluminium black handlebars, fully hydraulic brakes with 185 mm discs and a Shimano Alfine 11-speed internal gear hub with a 2012 Shimano Rapidfire shifter.
Ford says the E Bike Concept can support three riding modes – Economy, Comfort ans Sport.
