This is a new one. According to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) many of their mid-size SUVs and full-size cars are exiting the vehicles without selecting the Park position. In order to eliminate the confusion the guys from FCA will voluntary recall around 1.1 million cars worldwide.
811,586 cars sold in the United States, 52,144 in Canada, 16,805 in Mexico, and 248,667 elsewhere have the console-mounted shifter that always returns to the middle position. And this is the reason why the owners are so confused. The car manufacturer will do this recall in order to reduce the effect of potential driver error by enhancing warnings and transmission shift strategy.
The modifications will feature a warning and a transmission-shift that will automatically prevent the vehicle from moving, under certain circumstances, even if the driver forget to select the Park position.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said that the affected models are: 2012-2014 Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300 sedans and 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The company will notify owners of affected cars for the recall when service becomes available. 41 injuries are related to the recall and vehicles involved in these events were “inspected and no evidence of equipment failure was found.”
