Autocar has managed to put their hands on…for a few hours, on a white exemplar Ferrari 458 Spider. So naturally they have shot a review video for it which can bee seen by scrolling down this page.
When spotted with its roof on, the Ferrari 458 Spider looks almost similar to the coupe version, but there are however a few changes that had to be made in order to enable the aluminium, retractable solid roof to fold inside a tiny space behind the seats.
Apart from all the minor styling changes the Spider version has also been made stiffer in order to compensate for the missing roof, and Ferrari did say that this version is almost half a second slower around Fiorano than the coupe variant.
The 458 Spider costs 198,856 GBP in the UP, and for that amount you get the same 4499cc V7 engine found in the coupe that sends 562 bhp and 398 lbpft of torque to the wheels via a 7-speed dual clutch automated manual transmission.
This 458 Spider version rockets from 0 to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds, goes as fast as 198 mph and returns 23.9 mpg in a combined cycle (UK rating). Its kerb weight is 1,430 Kg and CO2 emission levels are 275 grammes per Km.
These figures might not mean much if you don’t actually step inside one of these models, especially with the roof down in order to maximise the whole experience by getting the V8’s wonderful exhaust note right into your ears and the wind swirling around your head.
