Detroit Electric SP:01 is already late for the market, but the company has just revealed a video teaser that provides a hint of the final exterior design of the production version. Even though we get to see a few glimpses of the car, it remains pretty faithful to the original model which was shown back in April 2013.
According to the company officials, the production version of the SP:01 model will be powered by a mid-mounted electric motor which will deliver 278 horsepower and 280 Nm peak of torque, much more than the firm previously announced (201 HP, 225 Nm). Despite the difference, the Detroit Electric SP:01 will be slower than originally estimated as it will run from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds.
“This new creative direction reflects Detroit Electric’s passion to deliver premium, design-driven products. We are proud to identify with the original Detroit Electric company’s history and look forward to enhancing the core values of this historic brand through innovation, pioneering spirit and performance. The new corporate identity has modernized the brand’s image to ensure it is fit for today’s rapidly evolving market, while preserving some of the magic and heritage of the original Detroit Electric brand", said Detroit Electric CEO Albert Lam.
