Pickup trucks might not be exactly something sporty drivers dream about, but the Callaway Silverado SC540 SportTruck can definitely change their mind. The Callaway brand is known for their long-term work with the Corvette. The only thing is that a 606-horsepower SC606 Corvette Grand Sport lacks cargo space. A pickup, on the other hand, has both cabin and cargo capacity. So why not build a special version out of it, like the Callaway Silverado SC540 SportTruck?
At a superficial glance, there is nothing really special in the Callaway Silverado SC540 SportTruck. There are no visible spoilers or ostentatious graphics, just a few tasteful badges and embroidery. People can know hat they are dealing with only from the carbon-fiber trip pieces and dual exhaust tips, along with the wheels.
According to the lucky few who had the chance to drive the Callaway Silverado SC540 SportTruck, it handles beautifully if driven carefully. The fuel mileage is about the same as the factory version, and it meets emissions standards for all 50 states. But when the driver pushes the throttle to the limit, the truck goes ballistic, thanks to its 540 hp supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 (as a comparison, the stock Silverado has a naturally aspirated 5.3-liter V-8 engine at 315 hp under the bonnet).
With this power, the Callaway Silverado SC540 SportTruck accelerates like a rocket, leaving everything behind (except probably a few pure-bred sports cars). However, this is not some undrivable, dangerous, temperamental muscle truck. Callaway engineers upgraded the suspension of the truck, so the massive body handles way better than the factory one.
The dampers, springs, and anti-roll bars were changed, and the ride height has been reduced by 2.5 inches at the front and 5 inches at the rear axle for a lower center of gravity. The power is brought to asphalt through BFGoodrich rubber, and Le Mans GT brakes ensure that the Callaway Silverado SC540 SportTruck seldom gets into trouble.
