Audi is offering a preview with one of the main highlights scheduled to premiere at the 2011 IAA in Frankfurt next month.
The German automaker calls it the Audi Urban Concept and it represents a 1+1 seater with a sleek cockpit made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic, free standing 21 inch wheels with protective plates, an elaborate suspension and an electric drive system.
Audi says the Urban Concept has been designed for congested urban spaces, and the car is not based on any previous model. Its purposes are being lightweight, efficient and with a ‘pure essence of sporty motion’.
The exterior looks dynamic and emotional, while the interior has been designed to accommodate two people, again with everything from controls to materials obeying the principles of light-weight construction. The two seats are slightly staggered, while the driver can adjust the steering wheel and the pedals.
Access inside the cabin is made via a tailgate, with the roof designed to slide to the rear to open.
The Audi Urban Concept is put into motion by two e-tron electric motors which are linked to a lithium-ion battery.
