Volkswagen has published the first pictures and details of the all-new Passat. This is the first time when the Passat will only be available as a break model. So say good bye to the sedan.

The new Volkswagen Passat Variant is based on the revised MQB Evo platform and it is bigger compared to the generation its replaces. It now 193.5 inches long (5.7 in longer compared to the old one). Width is up by 0.8 in to 72.9 in while height is basically unchanged, at 59.2 in The wheelbase was incresed by 1.97 in to 111.8 in. The trunk has now 690 liters which means 40 liters more compared to the old generation.

In terms of interior, the new Volkswagen Passat Variant comes with a modified dashboard. It is similar to the one found on the electric cars and uses a 15 inch central display.

Unde the hood, the new Passat will continue to be offered with various engines. There is mild-hybrid 1.5 liter petrol unit with 148 HP, or a 2.0 liter petrol unit which can deliver 201 or 261 horsepower. The diesel unit also comes in 2.0 liter flavour and has 121, 148 or 190 horsepower.

The top of the range will be the PHEV. It will also be offered in two versions. The first one has 201 HP and the second one delivers 268 HP. Both of them are using the 1.5 liter petrol unit as a base. Thanks to a 19.7 kWh battery pack, the car can travel up to 62 miles only on electricity.
