Smart has officially unveiled the 2016 fortwo cabrio, the model that will be showcased during the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. As you can see, the new 2016 smart fortwo cabrio is based on the coupe model and features the same familiar design but this time the car has a smaller B pillar in order to accommodate the retractable roof.
According to smart officials, the power retractable canvas roof can be opened remotely in just 12 seconds and it is available in three different colors: black, blue denim and red.
More than that, the new 2016 smart fortwo cabrio has a torsional strength increased by 15% thanks to some chassis reinforcements including a crossover bar, two torsional bulkheads and high-strenght steel tubes mounted in the A-pillars.
At launch, the 2016 smart fortwo cabrio will be available with two engines. The first one is the 1.0 liter petrol unit rated at 71 horsepower while the second one is the 0.9 liter turbo engine that can offer 90 horsepower and 135 Nm peak of torque. Both of them can be paired to a five-speed manual or to a six speed dual clutch transmission.
