Opel has officially unveiled the 2016 Astra K. The model was showcased during the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and represents an evolution and a revolution of the oldest generation.
“Our new Astra is the best Opel we have ever built and it represents a real quantum leap for Opel in a number of ways. The entire team has done an outstanding job on the new Astra. It’s another chapter in our comeback story”, commented Opel Group CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann.
The new Opel Astra K is 200 kilograms lighter than the predecessor and smaller but it will provide more interior space for the passenger.
Under the hood we have a range of diesel and gasoline engines with powers starting at 95 hp up to 200 hp.
The 1.6 CDTI with a wide range of outputs starting at 95 hp covers the diesel offer, whereas the 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo 105 hp is the base level gasoline engines. The highlight in the Astra engine portfolio is the all-new 1.4 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo, a four-cylinder unit with 145 hp and a maximum torque of up to 250 Nm very early. Maximum power is available between 1,800 and 4,000 rpm.
As for the Opel Astra Sports Tourer, the latest generation has the same dimensions as the outgoing model with a length of 4,702 millimeters, a width of 1,871 millimeters (with exterior mirrors folded in) and a height of 1,499 millimeters – however, it offers much more space for passengers and luggage. The driver can enjoy 26 millimeters of additional headroom, passengers in the rear have 28 millimeters more legroom. Furthermore, the new Astra Sports Tourer can now shoulder 1,630 liters of luggage.
