Information regarding the second generation Audi R8 has started to surface online through the Brits at Autocar.
The Stuttgart based brand is planing to launch its range topping model during the third quarter of 2014, with the range continuing to comprise from two engine choices, a 4.2-litre V8 and a 5.2-litre V10. The V8 version is expected to produce 450 HP while the V10 will unleash 550 HP.
A limited edition version 2014 Audi R8 is also planned and in this case the power output is going to reach 580 HP.
The upcoming R8 will feature a new design from which certain elements will also be borrowed on the upcoming E-Tron, plus the automaker intents to make the R8 lighter than 1,500 Kg in order to position it even closer to competitors from Lamborghini, Ferrari and Porsche.
The R8’s monocoque chassis will tip the scale at only 198 Kg (24 Kg less than the current structure on the ongoing R8), while the engines, even though more powerful, will be complaint with the Euro 6 emission standards.
The engines on the 2014 Audi R8 are going to feature technologies such as auto Start Stop and brake energy recuperation plus a ‘sailing’ function similar to the one adopted by Porsche on the PDK equipped new 911, which will idle the engine during prolonged periods of trailing throttle or downhill running.
