Subaru unveiled the updated versions Legagy sedan and Outback crossover right before their debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show next week.
Both models come with discrete styling changes among which customers will notice the slightly different headlights, front grille and front bumper, as well as with revised interiors featuring new seat materials, various upgrades for certain trim levels and the new EyeSight driver-assist system. This system integrates Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision
Braking and Vehicle Lane Departure Warning and uses uses a
stereo camera to provide a detection angle wider
than that of radar-based systems.
Both 2013 Subaru Legacy and 2013 Outback come with chassis, suspension and steering enhancements
for improved ride quality and agility and also a new double-overhead-cam (DOHC) 2.5-liter FB series Boxer engine producing 173 HP and 174 lb-ft of torque via a 6-speed manual or a 2nd generation Lineatronic CVT transmission.
Thanks to this new engine Subaru estimates that the new Legacy 2.5i equipped with the Lineatronic CVT will return 24/32/27 mpg (city/highway/combined) while the 2013 Outback 2.5i fitted with the same transmission will enable 24/30/26 mpg (city/highway/combined).
Apart from the new 2.5-litre unit, the 2013 Legacy and 2013 Outback will continue to be offered with the company’s 3.6-litre 6-cylinder Boxer which will send 256 HP to the all-wheel-drive system (which is standard on all models), via a 5-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission.
