We’ve already seen the 2013 Ram 1500, so it is time to take a closer look at the 2013 Ram Heavy Duty 2500 and 3500 models. Ram has always been a favorite among those who are looking for a really rugged truck, and the new 2013 Ram Heavy Duty has all the odds to remain on the top.
Apart from the facelift, the 2013 Ram Heavy Duty got many important updates. Almost every major component was reinforced, so the new heavy-duty truck can tow more, and carry more payload. The most important change is that its popular Cummins diesel engine now has three output versions. Even the smallest engine is good for 350 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque. The power brought to the asphalt through a six-speed manual transmission, matched with a brand new “wear-compensating” clutch that feels like new until it wears out.
A more powerful version of the 2013 Ram Heavy Duty is the 370 horsepower and a decent 800 lb-ft of torque. The high-end 2013 Ram Heavy Duty comes with a 385 horsepower and a monstrous 850 lb-ft of torque coupled to an Aisin six-speed automatic. All cooling systems have been redesigned, from the engine to the transmission to the intercooler to the exhaust gas recirculation system.
The 2013 Ram Heavy Duty is compatible with B-20 biodiesel, and there is a selective catalyst reduction system. While it is clearly more powerful than its predecessor, the new 2013 Ram Heavy Duty is also about 10 percent more economical, and its maintenance costs will be lower, because the interval between oil changes can be stretched to 15,000 miles.
In addition, there is the 5.7-liter Hemi gasoline V-8 engine available for the 2013 Ram Heavy Duty truck. However, its power output remained the same: it still produces 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes with a six-speed automatic gearbox.
There are important updates at the drive train, and there are two Borg Warner transfer cases are available, either manual or automatic. The frame of the 2013 Ram Heavy Duty is sturdier: there are more cross members, the front rails are widened, and the rear ones are fully boxed.
