Here are the official details and photos released by Daimler with the occasion of the unveiling of the new 2013 Mercedes GL Class at the 2012 New York Auto Show.
Described as "on a par with an S-Class" the new GL comes with fresh new styling, extra added safety and comfort, and a choice of three engines.
Its measurements are 201.6 inches in length, 84.3 inches in width and 72,8 inches in height, which means it is longer, wider and taller than the outgoing version, while its wheelbase has remained the same at 121 inches length.
The most important styling changes ar the LED infused headlights, the two-bar grille, the redesigned front bumper, plus the new rear section which also features revamped illumination blocks.
At the interior everything looks familiar in terms of appearance, although Mercedes has added a color instrument cluster, and new safety features such as Collision Prevention Assist, Attention
Assist, Crosswind Stabilization, Central COMAND controller and
Electromechanical steering as standard.
The engines available on the 2013 Mercedes GL at lunch (September 2012) will include a 3.0-liter turbo diesel for the GL350, rated at 240hp, 455 lb-ft (previously 210 hp, 400 lb-ft), a 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 for the GL450, capable of outputting 362hp, 406 lb-ft (Previously 335 hp, 339 lb-ft), and a 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 developing 429hp, 516 lb-ft (previously 382 hp, 391 lb-ft) inside the GL550.
All engines come matched with the automaker’s new 7-speed automatic transmission.
In terms of performance the 0 to 60 mpg acceleration times for the GL350, Gl450 and GL550 are 8.3, 6.2 and 5.5 seconds respectively, while the corresponding fuel consumption and emission figures for the GL 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC and GL 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY are 7.4-8.0 liters per 100km with CO2 between 192 and 209 g/Km, and 11.3-11.6 liters per 100km with CO2 levels between 262 and 269 g/Km.
Pricing for the 2013 Mercedes GL class was not announced yet.
