Mercedes has officially revealed the facelifted G Class through hi-res photos and details that describe the comprehensive range of measures applied in order to ensure that this vehicle remains ‘in a class of its own in the off-road sector’.
The list of exterior modifications is very discrete and it includes LED daytime running lights, new exterior mirrors, newly designed 20 inch rims and red painted brake callipers, plus a a new radiator grille with double louvers and new bumpers with larger air intakes for the AMG versions.
On the inside the 2013 Mercedes G Class features a completely redesigned instrument panel and centre console, with the vehicle making use of higher quality materials and a large colour screen positioned in the center. This screen is part of the car’s COMAND
Online infotainment system which offers, among other features, a navigation system, the LINGUATRONIC voice-operated
control system and Bluetooth wireless connectivity.    
The new G Class has also received new optional safety features such as DISTRONIC PLUS,
Blind Spot Assist and the parking aid PARKTRONIC with reversing camera, while the ESP system has been completely revised and it now includes Trailer Stability Assist and a HOLD function.
As far as the engine range the G Class is offered with a V6 diesel rated at 211 HP and a V8 petrol producing 388 HP for the G 350 BlueTEC and G 500 respectively, with the automaker claiming that both these models are offered as a long-wheelbase station wagon, while the G 500 can also be ordered as a short-wheelbase Cabriolet.
Both the G 350 and the G 500 are fitted with a 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission as standard.
As for the range tipping G63 AMG and G65 AMG models, in this case propulsion is provided by a V8 biturbo plant rated at 544 HP and a 612 HP V12 biturbo respectively.
The 2013 Mercedes G Class will be available for purchase on the company’s home market from June 2012 at a price that starts from 85,311 Euro for the G 350 BlueTEC and 99,948 Euro fir te G 500 (100,900 Euro – G 500 Cabriolet).
The more powerful G63 AMG and G65 AMG models start at 137,504 and 264,180 Euros respectively.
