Kia showed us the new Pro_Ceed at this year Paris Motor
Show. But, the Korean manufacturer kept one more surprise for us: the Sorento
facelift. It was unveiled today, resembling a new face and new mechanical
upgrades.
Available to order from Kia’s UK dealerships from the
beginning of October 2012, the new Sorento has a revised front end. All models
now have projection headlights, LED daytime running lamps and body-coloured
bumpers. The tailgate has been completely redesigned for a more wider
appearance, the bumper is also body-coloured and the LED rear lights have an
emergency braking function.
Along this gadget, the new Sorento also features in
standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Downhill Brake Control (DBC),
anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), six
airbags (twin front, side and side curtains) and active front headrests.
The new platform which underpins Sorento has improved
space for passengers in rows two and three without any increase in the car’s
overall footprint or wheelbase. Under the hood, the europeans will receive only
one engine, a 2.2 liter diesel. The CRDi four-pot develops 194 bhp at 3.800 rpm
and 422 Nm of torque from just 1.800 rpm.
A new exhaust-gas recirculation
system has helped New Sorento achieve class-leading fuel economy and CO2
emissions of 47.9 mpg and 155 g/km, when it is equipped with a manual transmission.
Also, Sorento accelerates from 0-60 mph in 9.4 seconds and has a top speed of
118 mph.
