GM has revealed the sportier version 2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS ahead of its debut at the 2012 North American International Auto Show.
The Sonic RS is scheduled to go on sale in late 2012, and thanks to its 1.4-litre Ecotec turbo (the only turbocharged powertrain in this segment), the American hatch will deliver 138 HP (103 kW) and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque via a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The engine is complemented by a MacPherson strut suspension with coil springs at the front, a stabilizer bar and a semi-independent, torsion beam axle-mount compound link-type rear
suspension, plus the car features four-wheel disc brakes backed by a four-channel anti-lock braking system.
The 2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS comes with electric power steering as standard, and some of its unique visual features on the outside include an RS specific grille, newly designed fog-lamps, a new rear spoiler, new rocker moldings, unique mirror caps and a retuned sport exhaust with chrome end pipes.
A set of 5-spoke design wheels complete the exterior treatment, while inside the cabin the Sonic RS comes with front sport seats, a sport steering wheel, a new gear shifter on the manual version, aluminium pedals and RS specific graphics on the instrument panel cluster.
The 2013 Chevrolet Sonic price starts at 14,495 USD and customers will be able to choose between the 4-door sedan or 5-door hatch body styles.
