The 2013 Cadillac XTS luxury sedan was unveiled today just as the 2011 Los Angeles Motor Show has opened its doors to the media.
The new XTS, which is larger than the CTS, is the "most technologically advanced production car in the brand’s history" and will go on sale in the US and Canada in spring 2012.
We won’t talk about its styling as we already discussed it when the first image was published a few days ago, and it is obvious that the production version is almost identical to the XTS Platinum Concept unveiled in Detroit back in 2010.
Powering the 2013 Cadillac XTS is a 3.6-litre direct injection V6 producing 300 HP (224 kW) at ,6,800 rpm and 265 lb-ft (358 Nm) of torque at 5,300 rpm which in terms of performance we don’t know yet what kind of figures will return.
We do know that this engine will be linked to a Hydra-Matic 6-speed automatic transmission which is going to feed the 300 horses to the cars FWD system, or the optional Advanced Haldex all-wheel-drive system featuring an electronically controlled limited-slip diff.
Apart from that, other highlights regarding the 2013 Cadillac XTS include the Magnetic Ride Control suspension at the rear and the HiPer Strut front suspension, the, capless fuel tank filler, the Safety Alert Seat which vibrates to alert the driver, the folding rear seat headrests for enhanced rear visibility or the Intervening braking system which tries to prevent potential collisions.
The 2013 Cadillac CTS is also going to be equipped with a short- or long-range radar system that supports the adaptive cruise control, the Front and Rear Automatic brakes and the Rear Cross Traffic Alert system.
And speaking of safety the new XTS will offer customers the possibility of choosing between two levels of control-and-alert protection called the ESS I and the ESS II (Enhanced Safety Strategy).
The ESS I includes systems like Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, Safety Alert Seat, Side Blind Zone Alert,  Rear Cross Traffic Alert and a Reflected LED display while the ESS II adds a colour Head-up display system, automatic brakes, ACC and Automatic Collision Preparation.
Production for the 2013 Cadillac XTS will start in spring 2012 at the Oshawa plant in Ontario.
