Autocar has managed to get their hands on a prototype version 2013 Bentley Continental GT V8 which they decided to test on a cold and wet Silverstone in order to find out if its new 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine will provide ‘proper Bentley performance’.
As you may already know this new V8 in the Continental GT which produces 500 bhp (373 kW) and 660 Nm (487 lb-ft) of torque is paired to a close-ratio eight-speed gearbox and promises 0 to 60 mph acceleration in under 5.0seconds and a top speed of 180 mph.
When compared to the W12 equipped version, this new V8 model feels more balanced and much more neutral, offering a pretty reasonable level of performance and is overall a really nice car to drive. According to Autocar this new 4.0-litre V8 transforms the Continental GT’s behavior in terms of the ride and handling, it has very little turbo lag, it sounds much better than the old W12, plus it requires 40 percent less fuel.
The Continental GT V8 will costs around 10 percent less than the W12 model while its performance figures are almost identical.
