Acura is showcasing the 2013 RLX Concept these days in New York, a vehicle that previews a production sedan that will hit the North American market early next year.
The RLX will become Acura’s flagship once it replaces the RL in 2013, with this model featuring a 2 inch longer wheelbase and a 2 inch shorter front overhang.
Apart from the typical Acura styling enhanced by LED headlights and 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, (elements which will most likely be absent on the production version), the RLX also has an interior that promises to bring "state-of-the-art communications, navigation and infotainment technologies" to the masses, along with dual LCD screen and the new AcuraLink communications system.
As far as propulsion the RLX Concept uses Acura’s Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system which comprises from a 3.5-litre V6 with direct fuel injection linked to a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox and three electric motors. This system provides a combined output of 370 HP, and Acura estimates it will also help deliver fuel economy figures of 30 mpg combined.
A petrol only version Acura RLX rated at 310 HP and with a FWD configuration is also expected to be offered.
