VW has put a price tag on the North American bound 2012 Passat, which according to the automaker, sets new benchmarks in the mid-size segment, and starts at 19,995 USD.
The range opener extracts power from a 2.5-litre 5-cylinder petrol delivering 170 HP to the wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox, and some of the features that are offered as standard include 16 inch wheels, automatic dual zone climate control, Bluetooth connectivity and steering wheel mounted audio controls.
Those who want to get a bit of extra comfort, the automaker offers the SE model, which starts at 23,725 USD and adds an 8-way power driver seat, heated front seats, a touchscreen Premium VIII radio, a multi-Function
leather-wrapped steering wheel plus 17 inch alloys.
The second engine option for the 2012 VW Passat is represented by the 2.0-litre TDI Clean Diesel which starts at 25,995 USD and promises to return 43 mpg on the highway, and has a driving range of nearly 800 miles.
Finally, the third powerplant option available on the 2012 VW Passat is the 3.6-litre V6 unit delivering 280 HP via a 6-speed automatic DSG transmission. This model costs 28,995 USD and comes with 18 inch alloys, sport seat, a sunroof and a Fender Premium Audio System as standard.
The 2012 VW Passat is offered in three equipment grades (S, SE and SEL) and the prices mentioned above do not include the 770 USD destination fees.
