Toyota has premiered the revised 2012 Toyota Avensis in Frankfurt today and announced the fact that this third-generation model is now more spacious, more practical and more fuel efficient.
The car was designed and engineered in Europe, with production scheduled to take place at the automaker’s Burnaston plant in UK.
The 2012 Toyota Avensis look bolder and more dynamic when compared to the previous version, with the overall dimension remaining unchanged. The key points in terms of design are the front where the new Avensis adopts the family ‘face’, through the redesigned upper grille and the larger, more aggressive looking lower grille, plus the headlamps which now incorporate LEDs. The automaker has also revamped the front and rear bumpers, the fog lamps and added new alloy designs.
At the interior the 2012 Toyota Avensis gained higher quality materials, new colours and the new Touch and Go Plus touch-screen satellite navigation system.
As far as engines as driving dynamics, the automaker has revised the 124 bhp 2.0-litre D-4D turbodiesel and reduced its emissions to 119 g/Km (meaning an improvement of 20 g/Km) and even though consumption for this unit has also been optimised, the company does not provide the actual figures yet.
The rest of the engines available for the 2012 Toyota Avensis include a 2.2 D-4D units with a Diesel Particulate Filter and a NOX Reduction Filter, rated at 148 bhp, plus a 1.8-litre Valvematic petrol capable of generating 145 bhp.
All engines come with 6-speed manual transmissions, with a six-speed manual also available for the 148 bhp 2.2 D-4D version, or a Multidrive S continuously variable transmission with
steering wheel mounted paddle shifts for the 1.8 ad 2.0-litre petrols.
In terms of standard equipment the 2012 Toyota Avensis comes with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps, ABS, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control (TRC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC+). Customers who purchase this facelift version will also get Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist.
The 2012 Toyota Avensis price was not announced yet.
