Chevrolet has taken its latest generation sports car, the 2012 Corvette ZR1 to the famous Nurburgring race track in Germany, which they consider, like pretty much everyone else, the ultimate validation for a car.

The results? well as you’ll see for yourself in the video below, the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 managed to lap the world’s most demanding track in a 7:19.63, which means more than 6.0 seconds faster than the old Corvette (7:26.40).

Not only that, but the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1’s record lap time is also close to 5 seconds faster than the 2012 Nissan GTR’s fastest lap on the Ring, so the only word we could think of right now is ‘impressive’.

A major role in achieving this record was played by the fact the 638-hp (476 kW) supercharged ZR1 was fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Zero Pressure tires, which are competition-oriented tires, optimized for warm, dry conditions.
