BMW has unveiled the production version 2012 BMW 6 Series Coupe which was first seen as a concept at the Paris Motor Show back in September.

This is the third generation model, and as you can see the production trim is almost identical to the concept, which by the way was designed by Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW’s new head of design who followed Chris Bangle’s departure.

2012 BMW 6 Series Coupe is 75 mm longer 39 mm wider and 5 mm higher than its predecessor, and besides the redesigned set of adaptive LED headlights, the new 2+2 seater sports car also features a more traditional set of taillights, and we would say better overall proportions.

Engine choices for the 2012 BMW 6 Series Coupe will include a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six (320 HP / 235 kW) fitted on the 640i and a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 (407 HP / 300 kW) available on the 650i. Both engines send power to the rear wheels via an 8-speed Sports automatic transmission offered as standard.

The new 6-er also benefits from a redeveloped chassis, and apart from other standard features like Auto Start Stop, ECO PRO mode, Electric Power Steering and Drive Dynamic
Control, the are also systems like Active Steering and Dynamic Damper Control offered as options.

In terms of performance and efficiency the 640i sprints from 0 to 100 Km/h  in 5.4 seconds, is able to reach a top speed of 250 Km/h (electronically limited), and will cover 100 Km on 7.7-litres of fuel/36.7 mpg. CO2 emissions for this version are 179 grams per Km.

As for the 2012 BMW 650i Coupe, accelerating from 0 to 100 Km/h takes 4.9 seconds while top speed is again limited to 250 Km/h. Covering 100 Km in the 650i will require 10.4-litres of fuel (23.1 mpg) while CO2 emission levels will reach 243 g/Km.

The 2012 BMW 6 Series Coupe price was not announced, but that should change once the on sale date approaches.
