The facelift version 2011 Vauxhall Antara, known as the Opel Antara for the rest of Europe, will go on sale in UK in December 2010, with pricing for the entry-level model starting at 3,000 GBP below than what the outgoing model costs.
Besides exterior modifications like a an updted front gill, new fog lights, new design 19-inch alloys and revamped rear lights, the 2011 Vauxhall Antara comes with revised engines that are now Euro 5 compliant, which means improved fuel consumption and reduced emissions.
The 2011 Vauxhall Antara will also be available with the new 2.2 CDTI turbodiesel engine that produces either 163 PS or 184 PS, with the 163 PS version offered as a FWD with a 6-speed manual transmission or an AWD with a 6-speed automatic.
The 184 PS version 2011 Vauxhall Antara has the same transmission options, but is available with AWD as standard.
The 2011 Vauxhall Antara also benefits from an improved chassis, revised spring and damper settings plus the interior features new materials, improved instrument graphics, extra storage spaces and better interior lighting.
The 2011 Vauxhall Antara price starts at 19,995 GBP for the 103 PS 2.2 CDTi Exclusiv FWD model.
Vauxhall press release :
* Entry level model dips below £20k
* Refreshed looks, improved dynamics, more efficient higher output engines
* Two- and four-wheel drive models available
Luton – Vauxhall’s Antara SUV gets a fresh new look inside and out when it goes on sale next month, along with entry-level pricing which now starts at under £20k – nearly £3,000 less than the outgoing model.
Prices for the new Antara now start from £19,995 for a 2.2 CDTi (163PS) Exclusiv front-wheel drive model, a saving of £2,835 on the outgoing base version.
The new Antara is immediately recognisable by its updated front grille and distinctive new Griffin logo, enhanced by fog lights finished with chrome bezels on SE models. New 19-inch alloy wheels (standard on SE) give the Antara a more aggressive look, while modified rear lights give the back of the vehicle a more robust appearance.
In addition, the revised Euro-5 compliant engine line-up offers increased performance as well as significantly reduced fuel consumption and emissions. The latest entry to the engine range is a newly-developed 2.2 CDTI turbodiesel, producing either 163PS or 184PS. The engine variants come with variable camshaft phasing, optimising torque and performance as well as reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
The 163PS variant is available in front-wheel drive with a six-speed manual transmission only or all-wheel drive mated to either a manual or six-speed auto gearbox. The 184PS also offers a choice of manual or automatic transmissions, and comes with all-wheel drive as standard. All transmissions have been revised to improve efficiency.
A re-worked chassis with revised spring and damper settings enhances the new Antara’s dynamics both on- and off-road, while the car’s clever adaptive four-wheel drive system switches automatically between two- and four-wheel drive as conditions demand. In normal driving, only the front wheels are driven, saving fuel, but in slippery conditions four-wheel drive is employed, switching drive to front and rear wheels for optimum traction.
The new Antara’s cabin features a revised centre console with extra storage and new materials, in addition to improved instrument graphics and interior lighting. Vauxhall has improved safety and comfort features in the Antara including a standard electric parking brake, a Hill Assist System as well as a “shift-up” indicator that optimises fuel economy.
"At less than £20k, the new Antara is set to be highly competitive in today’s SUV market,” said Peter Hope, Vauxhall’s Marketing Director. “Its lower emissions, higher output diesel engines and refreshed design will offer renewed appeal to both retail and fleet customers.”
