We know the the NILS electric concept is one of the main highlights at this year’s IAA, but this is not the only surprise prepared by the German automaker for visitors at the German Motor Show.
Volkswagen has also unveiled numerous variations based on the up! and these include the e-up, the eco up, the buggy up, the up azzura sailing team, the cross up and the GT up.
The e-up is a near production study with zero emissions which will be launched on the market in 2013 and which features an arc-shaped layout of its LED daytime running lights in the bumper.
The eco up is a version that runs on natural gas (EcoFuel) thanks to its BlueMotion technology which includes a Start Stop system and battery regeneration. The eco up emits just 79 grammes of CO2 per Km which means it can will provide certain tax benefits.
The Volkswagen buggy up is a is a vehicle in which promote a certain lifestyle feeling, and which makes use of glass-reinforced plastic. This version is basically a 21st century 2seater buggy concept made from strong, high-tech, lightweight materials.
Next is the Volkswagen up azzura sailing team, a vehicle designed by Italian designers Giorgetto Giugiaro and Walter de Silva, who both grew up in nautical environments.
The cross up is still a concept and it basically shows how a for door up will look like, and also exlores the rugged exterior qualities through new elements like wheel and side sill extensions, protective strips and more muscular looking bumpers.
Finally the Volkswagen GT up is a variant with a power rating of 100 PS, meaning 25 additional horses over than what the new up will offer. And this is something that would make sense from the automaker’s point of view considering the up is mainly driven in an urban environment. The car would also be more fun and more affordable than other vehicles with the same amount of power.
