As the Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 35 premiered today in Austria, at the Worthersee Festival, the German automaker has released the complete specs for this anniversary model celebrating 35 years since the birth of the Golf GTI in 1976.
We already knew that the car will carry a price tag of 30,525 Euro since the automaker first mentioned it almost three weeks ago, but what exactly will customers get after paying almost 44,000 USD? Well according to VW the Golf GTI Edition 35 is fitted with a 2.0-litre turbo unit delivering 235 HP and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque. This engine is a detuned version of the 4-cylinder plant found in the Golf R, and it produces 25 additional HP when compared to what the standard GTI outputs.
The Golf GTI Edition 35 dismisses the 0 to 100 Km/h acceleration time in 6.6 seconds (0.3 seconds faster than the GTI) and is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 247 Km/h. The car uses an XDS electronic differential lock for improved road grip, and comes with an optional 6-speed DSG transmission.
According to the German automaker, the Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 35 requires an average of 8.1-litres of fuel in order to cover 100 Km (8.0-litres on the DSG equipped model) and if you’re not quite sure weather its price tag is justified of not, then watching the promo video below might help draw a conclusion easier.
