The Brits from Car Magazine have performed a supercar group test in which they compare the McLaren MP4 12C with some of its closest rivals : the Mercedes SLS AMG, Porsche 911 GT2, Ferrari 458 Italia, Lamborghini Gallardo LP570 Performante and the Audi R8 V10.
The test was conducted at the Rockingham race track where professional driver Ben Collins, formerly known as The Stig, laps all of the above mentioned sports cars in order to see which is fastest.
Here are some details regarding each of these competitors :
The Mercedes SLS AMG costs 168,395 GBP, produces 563 bhp and weights 1620 Kg. It accelerates from 0 to 62 in 3.8 seconds and can hit a maximum speed of speed 197 mph.
The Porsche 911 GT2 is the lightest and the most powerful car in this test, with a mass of 1370 Kg and an output of 611 bhp. Accelerating to 62 mph from a stand still in the 171,568 GBP 911 GTS takes 3.5 seconds, and its maximum speed is 205 mph.
The Ferrari 458 Italia price is 173,132 GBP and for that amount the 1485 Kg Italian coupe delivers 562 bhp. The 0 to 62 mph time is 3.4 seconds and the automaker says it can go as fast as 202 mph.
The Lamborghini Gallardo LP570 Performante is priced at 185,000 GBP, delivers 562 bhp and tips the scale at 1550 Kg. The nought to 62 mph in this case is 3.9 seconds while top speed os 201 mph.
Audi R8 V10 is the cheapest supercar here, wearing a 109,000 GBP tag and unleashing 518 bhp. Its weights just as much as the SLS, meaning 1620 Kg, while in terms of performance it can go from 0 to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 197 mph.
Finally we arrive to the McLaren MP4 12C, who’s twin-turbo 3.5-litre V8 engine develops 592 bhp. The MP4 12C’s kerb weight is 1434 Kg, and its 0 to 62 mph time and top speed are 3.3 seconds and 205 mph respectively.
