Audi’s current SUV lineup consists of the Q7, Q5 and the recently launched Q3, but according to Autocar magazine, the Ingolstadt based car maker is currently considering adding three more models in order to meet the growing global appetite for SUVs.
These new 4×4 SUV’s will be called the Audi Q2, Q4 and Q6 and will gradually hit the market within the next five years.
The Audi Q2 will be the smallest of all (similar in size with the Nissan Juke), and is intended to compete with the MINI Countryman. Pricing for the UK is expected to be close to 18,000 GBP and powertrain options will most likely be borrowed from the current A1.
Just like the Juke the Q2’s strong points will be its unique styling along with a higher driving position and ground clearance.
Moving on to the Audi Q4, in this case the automaker targets the Range Rover Evoque, and customers should see a four ring badged, coupe style sporty version Q5 towards the end of 2014 or in 2015. Pricing in this case will hover around 30,000 GBP, and engine choices should contain a 2.0-litre diesel with two power levels (170 bhp and 210 bhp) plus a 3.0-litre V6 diesel rated at 240 bhp.
According to the same source, the upcoming Audi Q4 will also spawn two different S models, one developed for the North American, Russian and Chinese markets and one for Europe. In this case power levels are expected to reach reach 328 bhp from a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol and respectively 308 bhp from a twin turbo 3.0-litre TDI V6.
Finally there is the Audi Q6 which will rival the BMW X6 and will be based on the upcoming Porsche Cajun’s platform. Powertrain options are unclear at this point, due to the fact that the Q6 will most likely arrive in 2016.
