Daimler has officially presented the 2012 Mercedes SLK55 AMG during this weekend, right before the small performance roadster’s premiere in Frankfurt in a couple of weeks.
Characterized by the ‘usual’ series of aggressively styled body parts (new front bumper, side sills, rear diffuser, boot lid lip and sporty exhaust) the 2012 Mercedes SLK55 AMG also features a set of multi-spoke design black wheels and various accents and sports seats inside the cabin.
Power comes from a new, naturally aspirated 5.5-litre V8 which outputs 422 HP and 540 Nm on torque in European spec (415 HP and 398 lb-ft in North American spec) and which spins the rear wheels via an AMG SpeedShift Plus 7G-TRONIC transmission.
The 2012 Mercedes SLK55 AMG rockets from nought to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds (top speed limited to 155 mph/250 kmph) and returns 27.6 US mpg (8.5-litres per 100 Km) due to its Start Stop technology and AMG Cylinder Management system.
As you would expect from an AMG model, the SLK55 comes with high performance brakes and a sports suspension with Torque Vectoring and AMG Direct-Steer. There is also the optional AMG Handling Package which further increases suspension stiffness even further and adds a rear locking diff.
The 2012 Mercedes SLK55 AMG price has not been confirmed yet.
