Autocar has driven the new 2012 BMW M5, a machine which according to the Bavarian automaker, is cleaner, more efficient and more socially aware than the generation it seeks to replace.
Even though its twin turbo V8 is not as old-school as traditionalists would have liked, the 2012 BMW M5 is still 10 percent more powerful than the old, V10 powered model, plus it is also 30 percent more economical in terms of consumption.
Priced at 73,000 GBP in the UK the 2012 BMW M5 delivers 552 bhp, can sprint from nought to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and its top speed is rather ridiculously limited to 155 mph.
Autocar thinks this new model is much more than the figures mentioned above, and customers will start feeling the ‘M5 vibe’ the minute the start driving the car. The new generation is also equipped with a ‘proper’ sequential gearbox, for the first time, which unlike the one on the outgoing model, it now offers three driving modes instead of five.
Thanks to this new, improved transmission, the 2012 BMW M5 kind of feels like a Bugatti Veyron when you put your foot down on the acceleration pedal, and even though the German performance sedan weights 1,945 Kg, the company’s chassis engineers have made it handle really well. Also according to the Brits from Autocar, the new M5 actually feels like it would only weight 1,600 Kg.
